Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The incumbent will be the Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). Within the MUHC, the Division of Infectious Diseases spans the Glen site (Royal Victoria Hospital), the Montreal General Hospital, and Hôpital Lachine. The MUHC is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

The Department of Medicine and the Division of Infectious Diseases are highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical care and innovation, research and medical education. Of twenty-eight faculty members over half are clinician scientists, highlighting the Division’s commitment to transformational research and innovation. Our diverse team of experts lead two of the Departments, six world class teams, one in TB and another in Lethal Infections and a pan-McGill research program (MI4). The Division also has internationally recognized programs in Tropical Medicine and Chronic Viral Illness (CVIS). The Division has four busy consultation services running the gamut from supporting a community hospital site (Lachine) to high volume solid and hematologic transplantation programs. Division members are leaders/key collaborators in the microbiology lab with reference labs in Parasitology and TB and share close ties to MUHC’s Montreal Children’s Hospital ID services. The Division is home to fully accredited training programs in ID and Medical Microbiology and offers post-RCPS Fellowships in Tropical Medicine, CVIS, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and TB.

The successful candidate will be a transformational leader who, as Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases, will draw on strong interpersonal skills to inspire best practices and innovation, manage a complex set of clinical services and diverse/high quality training programs. The incumbent will also be expected to bring a track-record of success in academic leadership with the ability to foster excellence in teaching, patient care, and research within the Division. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the clinical and educational missions of the Division and Department, promote independent and collaborative research and fulfill administrative responsibilities at the institutional, university, regional and provincial levels, where appropriate.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;

• Have completed subspecialty training in Infectious Diseases;

• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Infectious Diseases;

• Possessing dual certification in Medical Microbiology will be considered an asset;

• Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;

• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
