This full-time exempt position in Alumni Engagement reports to the Managing Director, Alumni Affairs and Development, and is responsible for planning and executing MD alumni class-based engagement and fundraising efforts, with an emphasis on classes celebrating Reunion. 

JOB-SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

• Manage a portfolio of Reunion classes: Identify, qualify, cultivate, develop strategy, solicit, and/or steward a portfolio of alumni celebrating Reunion for current use, endowed or planned gifts of $10K-$100K (and above as appropriate). Identify, enlist, manage and steward volunteer Committees who have engagement and fundraising responsibilities. Plan and conduct committee meetings (3-4 per year per class). Guide and manage volunteer peer outreach for engagement and fundraising purposes. Set class fundraising goals, based on analysis, and partner with major and planned giving colleagues, as appropriate, on donor strategies. Determine, and execute as appropriate, engagement and event strategies for both social and content-based activities.
• Manage a portfolio of non-Reunion classes: Identify, qualify, cultivate, develop strategy, solicit, and/or steward a portfolio of Non-Reunion alumni for current use, endowed or planned gifts of $10K-$100K (and above as appropriate). Maintain and, ideally, grow membership in HMS loyalty (Federman), leadership (Dean’s Council), and legacy (Ezekiel Hersey Council) giving societies. Oversee and steward Class Agents, which includes partnering on the bi-annual class-based appeal letters.
• Conduct personal visits either in person or via Zoom for recruitment, volunteer management, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes.
• Direct work for and mentor a shared, full-time Development Associate.
• Serve as an informal mentor and leader within the Alumni Engagement team.
• Coordinate with AAD colleagues to identify, research, engage, solicit, and steward top prospects in assigned classes. This may include partnering with faculty and senior administrators. 
• The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the level of the position.

Working Conditions: Hybrid work environment with one required day in the office each week and as the business needs dictate with occasional travel required. Ability and willingness to travel to meet donors and volunteers and staff events.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. 
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in fundraising and administration or related transferable experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

• Must have experience with Microsoft Windows and Office, and databases.
• Ability to solicit and close 5-figure gifts and manage volunteers.
• Gift planning knowledge or experience. 
• Collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented. 
• Must be able to listen carefully to colleagues and alumni.
• Must possess good judgment, an ability to maintain confidential information, and can handle difficult situations with tact and a sense of humor. 
• Motivated to learn and flexible to change. 
• Ability to think strategically and conceptually, solve problems, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both in writing and verbally.
• Must be able to deal effectively and politely with people from all types of backgrounds.  

• Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
