Climate Fund Managers B.V. (CFM) is a leading blended finance fund manager dedicated to securing a sustainable future by investing across global emerging markets. CFM has a long-term vision to structure cutting edge financing facilities around thematic areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, water and oceans, sustainable land use, and sustainable cities. CFM is established as a joint venture between the Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks – part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa.

 

CFM is authorised by the AFM to act as manager (beheerder) of investment institutions and to offer participation rights in investment institutions. CFM is subject to supervision by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (Autoriteit Financiële Markten or “AFM”) and/or the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank N.V. or “DNB”)

 

About the Role

 

We are seeking a Fundraising Executive to work for a private equity/infrastructure fund manager with the mission to contribute to: Climate change mitigation and adaptation in emerging markets. The Fundraising Executive will work diligently and systematically to develop new investor relationship and maintain relationships between Climate Fund Managers (CFM) and its existing investor ecosystem to support CFM’s strategy to grow climate centric funds under management.

 

The Fundraising Executive will be the central connecting point in CFM regarding sourcing of new capital from institutional investors with a specific focus on APAC and Asian Markets: Japan, Singapore, Australia and others in line with the defined fundraising strategy.

 

Central to the Job purpose is to explain to investors ‘what we do’, ‘why we do it’, ‘how we do it’, and ‘why it makes sense to them’. A strong investor network and a proven track record in fundraising across the investor ecosystem is essential to be shortlisted.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Raising capital from commercial/institutional investors with a specific focus on APAC & Asian markets

Identify and source new investors through active relationships

Maintain relationships with existing investors/sponsors

Work in a structured manner by ensuring all engagements are documented to create an Institutionalized framework of client engagements

Manage complex new initiatives and fundraising processes that involve complete investor onboarding from identification, developing initial contacts, to guiding investors through due diligence and the execution of legal documentation

In-depth understanding of investor networks, client mapping and client ecosystem, including knowledge of investor fund strategies, deal and decision-making approach i.e. why the investor would select CFM.

Client mapping and desktop exercises performed timeously, uploaded onto CRM systems for review and translate into tangible outcomes

Establish and manage the investor interactions programme of actual and potential investors

A high level of ambient knowledge about the status of potential investors, such that the fundraising actions of CFM are targeted and effective

Disciplined with fundraising process administration and record keeping, including the follow-through required to meet monthly targets and show progress

Knowledge of investment processes and understanding of Asset Management principles, asset classes and allocation

Knowledge of ESG principles within investment and asset management context and how it applies to structuring investments.

The energy and confidence to participate in relevant workshops and conferences to promote and raise awareness about CFM, CFM’s managed funds, blended finance and the financing of climate change adaptation and mitigation concepts

Team player, open to giving and receiving constructive feedback

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

The role focuses on fundraising and business development. A financial technical understanding of the fund structure and ability to discuss these concepts with potential investors is required.

 

Proven track record of capital raising (preferably Private Equity/ infrastructure themed) funds

10 - 15 years’ experience in distribution / capital raising preferably in the energy or infrastructure sectors.

Financial degree or equivalent

A network within institutional/commercial (Asian) investors;

An understanding of the entire fundraising cycle from origination to final closing

Financial acumen – the capacity to demonstrate knowledge of and insight into financial principles and processes and identify inconsistencies in data

Sales and relationship management skills combined with a strong technical/financial ability to explain the mandate and concepts of CFM

A good knowledge of the products offered by CFM and their benefits

A passion and energy for sustainable investing, investor and client engagement towards establishing successful relationships

An understanding of investors decision making processes, timelines, asset allocations and rationale

Attention to detail and competence with spreadsheet / data base applications (i.e. advanced Microsoft skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM data software
