A PeopleSoft Database Administrator (DBA) is primarily responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, and performance of the database systems that support PeopleSoft applications. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
• Database Management: 
 a. Installation, configuration, and maintenance of PeopleSoft databases (often Oracle, but sometimes SQL Server or others). 
 b. Managing database resources and services, ensuring data integrity and availability. 
 c. Designing and implementing database structures (tables, queries, stored procedures, triggers, etc.). 
• Performance and Optimization: 
 a. Monitoring, analyzing, and tuning the overall PeopleSoft system performance, including the database and application tiers (WebLogic, Tuxedo, Process Scheduler, Integration Broker). 
 b. Performing SQL tuning and query optimization. 
 c. Troubleshooting system hardware, software, and network issues affecting performance. 
•  Maintenance and Upgrades: 
 a. Planning and executing database and PeopleSoft application upgrades, patches, and fixes (e.g., using PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) and Change Assistant). 
 b. Building and maintaining development, testing, and production environments (environment refreshes). 
• Security and Disaster Recovery: 
 a. Implementing and managing database security policies, including user access, roles, and permissions. 
 b. Developing and implementing backup and recovery strategies (e.g., RMAN for Oracle) to ensure data integrity and availability. 
 c. Participating in disaster recovery planning and testing. 
• Troubleshooting and Support: 
 a. Conducting root cause analysis and resolving complex issues related to database integrity, performance, connectivity, and application functionality. 
 b. Providing technical support and guidance to application support teams, developers, and business users. 
• Automation and Scripting: 
 a. Automating routine DBA tasks using shell scripting (e.g., UNIX, Linux, PowerShell) and other tools. 
• Documentation: 
 a. Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for database standards, configurations, procedures, and policies. 
 
Qualifications and Skills 
Required: 
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 
• Experience: Typically, 8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with specific experience supporting PeopleSoft environments. 
• Technical Proficiency: 
a. Deep understanding of PeopleSoft Internet Architecture (PIA) and components like: Application Server, Web Server (WebLogic), Process Scheduler, Tuxedo, and Integration     
                   Broker. 
b. Expertise in a major RDBMS (Relational Database Management System), such as Oracle Database (often 12c or higher), or Microsoft SQL Server. 
c. SQL and PL/SQL proficiency (or T-SQL for SQL Server). Performance tuning and optimization. Experience with database security, backup, and recovery methods. 
d. Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux and/or Windows Server. Shell scripting (Bash, Korn Shell, PowerShell).
