Position Summary
State Street’s Legal Department is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Legal Data Engineering to join Legal Operations. This role is responsible for the engineering and operational reliability of Legal data products and platforms, including data pipelines, integrations, data models, and technical issue management.
The AVP partners closely with Technology and Legal stakeholders and works alongside the Legal Data Controller to ensure Legal data is accurate and that corrective actions and safeguards are implemented to maintain data quality. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy and supports enterprise governance expectations through robust engineering practices and well‑controlled operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Data Engineering
• Design, build, and support Legal data pipelines and integrations (ingestion, transformation, validation, and publishing), ensuring reliable upstream/downstream dependencies.
• Develop and maintain data models, metadata standards, and reusable data assets to support reporting, analytics, and operational use cases.
• Support ad hoc reporting requests by producing reliable datasets/outputs and partnering with stakeholders to clarify requirements and validate results.
• Implement data quality controls (automated checks, monitoring, alerting) and partner with data owners to resolve root causes.
• Partner with Technology to align on architecture, security, access patterns, and operational support models.
• Support release management for platform changes (testing coordination, deployment readiness, and post‑release verification).
• Prepare Legal data for AI use cases by curating training/feature datasets, standardizing metadata, and ensuring data is usable for tagging, classification, and search experiences.
• Build and run AI-enabled pipelines (where applicable) to support automated tagging, classification, and enrichment of Legal content and contract metadata, partnering with Technology and model owners to operationalize outputs.
Qualifications
Required
• Master’s degree or equivalent advanced professional experience is required.
• Experience building and supporting data pipelines, integrations, or data products in an enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of Databricks (e.g., notebooks, jobs/workflows, Delta Lake concepts) and how it is used to build and operate data pipelines.
• Deep understanding of relational databases and data modeling, including strong SQL skills and familiarity with OData concepts/patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex data/platform issues and drive root‑cause resolution with Technology partners.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills; ability to operate autonomously and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred
• Experience with Legal systems, contract repositories, or contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms.
• Familiarity with data governance, operational control frameworks, and audit/regulatory expectations.
• Experience with data quality tooling, monitoring/alerting patterns, and batch/near‑real‑time processing concepts.
• Experience translating business requirements into technical designs and partnering effectively across Legal, Risk, Compliance, and Technology.
• Data visualization skills and/or UI/UX design experience to improve usability of data products, dashboards, or end‑user experiences.
Salary Range:
$70,000 - $130,000 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
