POSITION: the Department of Native American Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
at East Central University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Native American Studies,
beginning in August 2026.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach courses in Native American Studies, which may also include
courses in Indigenous Archaeology, Anthropology, Native American Literature, and Native American History.
The successful candidate will also be expected to teach and develop Indigenous-centered courses, participate in
collaborative research methods, and establish partnerships with local tribal communities. Candidates with
experience teaching interdisciplinary NAS courses at the undergraduate level, who can provide evidence of
community-engaged scholarship or collaboration with Native peoples, nations, or communities, and who
possess familiarity with Southeastern Indigenous cultures and languages, especially those located in Oklahoma,
are encouraged to apply.
The standard teaching load is a 4/4. Other responsibilities include advising, serving the university and
community, and maintaining an active research agenda. East Central University is an equal opportunity

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Native American Studies, Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology,
Literature, English, History, or a closely related field with a strong emphasis on Native North America and
Indigenous peoples preferred; ABD in one of the specified areas required.
