Assist in securing project opportunities to support Construction and Special Project operational needs.
Support review of engineering designs and estimates to help assure client expectations are achieved.
The Assistant Preconstruction Manager supports Preconstruction Managers and may assume additional responsibilities as experience grows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support maintenance of the business opportunity pipeline by tracking leads, opportunities, and next steps.
Coordinate with key internal and external personnel to develop appropriate understanding of project requirements.
Assist with review of drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents for scope clarity.
Support preparation of detailed estimates (conceptual/schematic, design development, and construction) under direction of the Preconstruction Manager.
Help gather pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure appropriate bid coverage.
Assist in the solicitation process, including bid invitations, follow-up, leveling, and documenting coverage.
Participate in value engineering and scope alignment discussions to match project scope to client budgets.
Support preparation and analysis of cost models during design development.
Assist with assembling preconstruction deliverables for internal review and external presentation (as assigned).
Maintain a working knowledge of material unit costs and systems square foot costs through continuous learning and exposure to projects.
Coordinate preconstruction efforts with preconstruction team members and support staff to meet deadlines.
Maintain organized documentation of assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, and scope narratives.
Keep current on changes and trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes, and working rules.
Visit on-going projects as requested to verify status of estimate versus project status, meet with the project operations team, and view work in place for experience and comparison to estimates.
Develop understanding of the bid/Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) process as it relates to a project’s financial success.
Interact with general contractors, owners, design professionals, company associates, and other parties with positive results.
Effectively communicate with both written and verbal skills.
Be an advocate of Hardy with current and potential customers and other stakeholders.
Ensure Hardy is providing a high level of service to potential and current customers or clients through responsiveness and attention to detail.
Demonstrate problem-solving skills by identifying issues, asking good questions, and proposing solutions.
Reports to the Director of Preconstruction.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and General Requirements:
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
PDF Collaboration Tools (Bluebeam preferred)
Database Estimation Software (Quotesoft preferred)
Ability to comprehend complex written and verbal instructions
Able to clearly communicate in written and verbal English
Unencumbered US Driver’s license
Eligible to work in U.S.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, or a construction related field, or at least 7–10 years MEP field experience.
Experience in commercial construction, estimating, field operations, or a related role (MEP preferred) preferred.
Demonstrated aptitude for estimating, coordination, or customer support with strong attention to detail.
