Job Summary
Assistant Planner is an entry-level position that provides professional and technical planning functions, including both current planning (development reviews) and long-range planning. The Assistant Planner must understand and apply adopted plans and regulations in a variety of circumstances including answering questions concerning land use regulations, reviewing land use applications, and drafting updates to planning documents and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures compliance with state and local laws and regulations affecting planning, land subdivision, and zoning.
Apply planning principles and practices to current and long-range planning projects.
Some administrative tasks may be assigned, which may include taking minutes at meetings, preparing meeting packets, and a variety of day-to-day office tasks.
Work closely with developers by providing guidance on land use applications and regulatory requirements.
Prepare and communicate a variety of information (verbal and written) to a variety of boards, commissions, and the public.
Draft and communicate plan and regulation amendments.
Required to attend meetings outside of normal working hours.
Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field of study (required).
Land use planning or closely related experience is preferred.
Possess or be able to obtain a Wyoming Driver's License and have a good driving record.
Working knowledge of basic computer software and ArcGIS applications.
