Position Description:
McGill University’s Department of Natural Resource Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Forest Ecology at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. This is a full-time tenure track appointment with teaching, research and service responsibilities. Service is expected to include demonstrated contributions to the university and scholarly communities. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

We are seeking an innovative forest ecologist with research interests and demonstrated expertise pertaining to forest resource management, including ecosystem conservation, forest production systems (timber and non-timber), and/or urban forestry.  The ideal candidate will have expertise in the sustainable management of mixed-species and boreal forest ecosystems commonly found in Quebec and eastern North America. An interest in, and experience with, farm forestry, maple syrup production, and managing an experimental forest would be an asset, particularly as it relates to research and teaching using McGill's Morgan Arboretum.

This position will complement the Department of Natural Resource Science’s existing strengths in soil science, agriculture, applied ecology, ecotoxicology, wildlife and fisheries biology, entomology, microbiology, resource economics and policy. The successful candidate should have experience and interest in working with interdisciplinary groups. 

McGill’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is located on the Macdonald Campus, 35 km from downtown Montreal. The Campus comprises 650 hectares of farm and forested lands, commercial and research animal facilities, experimental field stations, well-equipped analytical laboratories and state-of-the-art student learning facilities. McGill field stations include the Bellairs Institute in Barbados, the McGill Arctic Research Station on Axel Heiberg Island and the McGill Subarctic Research Station in northern Quebec, as well as the Morgan Arboretum, the Gault Reserve and the Molson Reserve. Job Duties:
The selected applicant’s record of performance must demonstrate achievement and evidence of outstanding research potential in the area of forest ecology. The successful candidate will be required to develop an externally-funded research program involving the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students and conduct interdisciplinary research with diverse research teams. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability and commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is expected to participate in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). 

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Candidates must hold a PhD in Forestry, Applied Ecology or a closely related field. A demonstrated record of research experience and excellence, including publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals and evidence of potential for obtaining independent external research funding is expected. The candidate should also demonstrate evidence of teaching, mentoring, and advising students.
