Job Title: Harwood House Assistant Manager
Reports To: Harwood House Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt
Wage Range: $21 - $22 per hour DOE
Job Description:
The main responsibility of the Assistant Restaurant Manager is to serve as the ‘right-hand’ of the restaurant manager. The Assistant Manager is responsible for implementing workflow procedures and processes based on direction from the Manager, supervising employees during day-to-day tasks, providing customer support in escalated situations, and filling in for the Manager when he/she is not on-site. Additional responsibilities include managing the wine program, organizing and participating in FOH meetings, and attending QHSR leadership events.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Manager in achieving the overall success of the Harwood House.
Learn and maintain proficiency in all roles within the Harwood House.
Provide operational support and fill in as needed during staffing shortages.
Assume Manager duties in the Manager’s absence.
In coordination with the Manager, ensure adequate staffing coverage.
Leadership & Team Development
Provide training, guidance, and coaching to all front-of-house employees.
Hold team members accountable for meeting quality standards and following established processes and procedures.
In collaboration with the Manager, administer corrective action when necessary.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of employee performance reviews.
Participate in the successful onboarding of all new department employees.
Track employee training requirements (e.g., alcohol service certification, new employee orientation, etc.).
Promote a positive work environment and support strong team morale.
Administration & Documentation
Document employee incidents as needed, including but not limited to disciplinary actions, safety concerns, and guest complaints.
Complete required reports in a timely manner as assigned by the Manager (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually).
Collaborate with the Manager to ensure consistency, compliance, and effective departmental communication.
Perform other related duties as requested by the Manager.
Meetings & Professional Development
Attend at least one New Hire Orientation per year.
Attend at least 10 of 12 Leadership Meetings annually.
Develop proficiency in all computer programs used in the Harwood House, including Symphony, ResDiary, Orbital Shift, Microsoft Outlook, and others as needed.
Operations & Compliance
Manage the QHSR wine program, including inventory, vendor coordination, and scheduling wine tastings.
Take an active leadership role in maintaining a safe work environment; promptly address and report safety concerns and incidents.
Monitor and collaborate with the Manager to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Abilities:
Able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Food trays can get very heavy and require balance and strength.
Ability to go up and down stairs.
Able to perform all of the tasks that we expect of the FOH team.
Capable of multitasking and adjusting to changing priorities on a regular basis.
Uses sound business judgement in making recommendations and decisions.
Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
Flexible and can adjust to multiple requests with changing assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work all shifts, including weekends, as needed.
Standing and walking at a very fast pace for long periods of time, bending to clean/wipe tables, carrying loads up to 50 lbs. (supplies, food trays, etc.). Work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. May be called in to cover shifts at all hours. Must be able to work outside in the heat during the summer months – patio seating.
Knowledge / Education/Experience:
Documented/verifiable experience in a leadership role.
Documented/verifiable experience in a restaurant/server role.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Montana Alcohol Certification, Food Safety Certification
