ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL

 CRIMINAL BUREAU

 GAMING ENFORCEMENT DIVISION

(Springfield District Court)

The Attorney General’s Office is looking for a highly motivated individual with a commitment to public service to serve as a prosecutor in the Gaming Enforcement Division within the Criminal Bureau, Springfield, MA. The Gaming Enforcement Division is a statewide team of prosecutors, investigators, and administrative and other staff, partnered with the Massachusetts State Police, and charged with investigating and prosecuting gaming-related crimes pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11M.

 

Primary Duties:  The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) will be involved in investigating and prosecuting criminal conduct related to expanded gaming in the Commonwealth, including violations of G.L. c. 23K, G.L. c. 23N, G.L. c. 267A, and G.L. c. 271, and other illegal activity, such as gaming-related financial crime, cheating, public order offenses, and other criminal activity occurring at the casino including violations of G.L. c. 94C, G.L. c. 265, G.L. c. 266, and G.L. c. 269. The work in this position will emanate from the MGM Casino, and the AAG will be assigned to and appear in Springfield District Court.

 

The AAG will be expected to handle a District Court caseload and will be charged with leading and coordinating investigations and prosecutions with the Massachusetts State Police and Springfield Police in conjunction with other prosecutors, financial investigators, victim/witness advocates, paralegals, and support staff. The position requires a candidate with a proven track record of versatility and adaptability, and the ability to build bridges and exercise good judgment. Division members work closely with the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit assigned to both the Attorney General’s Office and the Gaming Commission, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, which demands a demonstrated history of successful partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. Additional duties will include screening potential cases, fostering relationships with industry stakeholders, participating in trainings, and working cohesively with others in the Attorney General’s Office and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. For qualified candidates, Superior Court casework may also be part of this role.

 

All employees assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Division are subject to the Enhanced Code of Ethics adopted pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11M(c). 

 

Position Requirements:

Law school graduate and member of the Massachusetts bar.

At least two (2) years of litigation and trial experience as an attorney, or one (1) year of criminal prosecution experience.

Willing to learn, eager to be challenged, and comfortable appearing in court.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Self-motivated, disciplined, and ethical, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making.

A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required and ability to travel anywhere in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to support investigations and litigation.

 

Applicants must be active members in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar at the time of application.

Position Type:  Full-time/Exempt. Applicants must be able to work 37.5 hours per week.

 

The successful candidate will work in-person and is required to report to the Springfield Regional Office and Springfield District Court.

Salary: $87,500-$130,595, commensurate with JD year.
