As our new Asset Lifecycle Engineer - Water Supply, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how our city plans, invests in, and cares for one of its most essential services. This position requires significant experience (10+ yrs) in 3‑waters asset management, with the capability to navigate complex networks, optimise lifecycle decisions, and provide robust, evidence‑based advice that guides long‑term investment and operational planning.

Your depth of knowledge in water assets will be central to ensuring Hamilton’s water supply remains resilient, sustainable and ready for the future.
What you'll be doing:
• Translate asset strategies and models into clear, practical direction for stakeholders and delivery partners
• Lead the development of operational, maintenance and renewal strategies
• Shape the water supply programme for our Asset Management Plans, 10‑year plan and 30‑year infrastructure strategy
• Drive best‑practice lifecycle asset management and continuous improvement
• Lead infrastructure planning projects and key initiatives to lift asset maturity
• Mentor and support asset engineers, helping them grow and succeed

Please be advised that this role will initially be positioned within Hamilton City Council. As of 1 July 2026, your role will transfer to be positioned within IAWAI – Flowing Waters, a Council Controlled Organisation. You will be kept informed with regular communications before and during the transition. 
Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience
• A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science or related field (CPEng preferred)
• 10+ years experience in asset management within local government or public infrastructure
• Confidence navigating New Zealand’s resource management and three waters legislation
• Proven project management capability
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical and standards information in a clear manner.
• A collaborative, relationship‑driven approach
• Leadership experience, including mentoring and guiding others
• The ability to make sound decisions under pressure
• Experience with strategic planning, policy development and public consultation
• Proficiency with CMMS, AMS and digital asset systems
• A full NZ driver licence
