Byrne & Jones is seeking an experienced Asphalt Milling Operator to operate milling machines that grind and remove asphalt from roadways, highways, parking lots, and other paved surfaces.

Responsibilities:

Safely and effectively operate asphalt milling machines to remove the top layers of asphalt or concrete surfaces, adjusting machine settings as needed for different types of projects.

Ensure surfaces are prepared properly for new asphalt or other surface treatments by maintaining consistent milling depth and quality.

Regularly inspect and maintain milling machines to ensure they are in good working order, checking for wear and tear, ensuring proper fluid levels, blade conditions, and machine functionality.

Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

Work closely with project managers, foremen, and other crew members to ensure work is completed on time and according to specifications.

Monitor the quality of the milled surface, ensuring proper depth and smoothness for the next phase of construction or paving.

Help ensure safe traffic flow around the milling equipment by assisting with setup, flagging, or coordinating with other workers to manage lane closures and detours.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience operating asphalt milling machines or heavy equipment is highly preferred. Experience with other road construction or maintenance equipment is a plus.

Valid Driver’s License required.

Heavy equipment operator certification or similar credentials preferred.

Ability to work in physically demanding and varying weather conditions.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while operating machinery.

Skills:

Proficient in operating and maintaining milling machines.

Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor milling quality.

Good communication skills to work effectively with the crew and supervisors.

Knowledge of construction site safety practices.
