Pay Rate: Starting at $15.00 per hour
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:45am - 3:15pm
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Aqua Camp Director and Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Aqua Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising children along with planning, organizing, and implementing day to day activities. This position is hired as a seasonal employee, which spans from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervise children ranging from 5-12 years old at Rainbow Falls Waterpark, and on weekly Field Trips.
Swim and interact with the children when in the pool.
Maintain a commitment to the development of each child’s self esteem by providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment through age appropriate activities, crafts, and games.
Be present and on time to camp every day.
Effectively communicate information regarding Aqua Summer Camp and Park District policies to participants and parents.
Document all injuries and behavioral concerns.
Attend staff meetings and other required trainings/events that are scheduled after normal working hours.
Perform the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain current certifications for CPR/AED/First Aid
Be familiar with the Character Counts program and the 6 Pillars of Character
Collaborate with other EGPD Camp Counselors and Directors for shared spaces and activities
Serve as a Mandated Reporter
Counselors age 21 and older will be asked to take driving training and drive the Park District Bus occasionally
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
Occasional exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions while working.
Physical agility to participate with children and maintain mobility from site to site.
Subject to modified/flexible work schedule.
Must work closely with co-workers and communicate any special needs or considerations.
Able to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR is required, including the ability to respond quickly and accurately to any and all emergencies.
Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
The Aqua Summer Camp Counselor must be safety conscientious and use good judgment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to work the entire duration of the summer (End of May-Second week of August.)
Must be able to swim.
Know developmentally appropriate activities and have classroom management skills for elementary aged children.
Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
Effective leadership skills.
Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
Flexibility, excellent communication skills and patience
18 years or older (preferred)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
CPR/First Aid, AED Certified (or ability to obtain)
