State Street Investment Management (formerly State Street Global Advisors) is seeking an Application Development Officer to join the Global Funds Management (GFM) Engineering team within the Chief Operating Officer (COO) organization.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role with accountability for application architecture, engineering delivery, and operational excellence supporting critical Global Funds Management business functions. You will contribute directly to solution design and implementation, working closely with a highly experienced, global engineering team to build and evolve enterprise-scale financial applications.
The role involves new software development as well as ongoing enhancement and maintenance of core GFM applications. Candidates should bring strong financial software experience or a demonstrated interest and understanding of financial markets.
This role follows a hybrid working model, requiring four days per week onsite at our Krakow or Gdansk offices.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as a Senior Individual Contributor within an agile team of high-performing engineers
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications with a strong focus on React.js front-end solutions
• Build reusable, responsive, and high-performance UI components using modern frontend architecture patterns
• Analyze, design, develop, test, and debug complex software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Python, and SQL
• Work with Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Redshift databases
• Integrate React-based front-end applications with Java-based backend services
• Support and enhance one or more GFM business functions and application modules within an Agile Scrum team
• Collaborate effectively with geographically distributed, cross-functional teams
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for business users and internal engineering teams
• Write unit tests and automation tests; perform manual testing to ensure high-quality delivery
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing thoughtful guidance and critical analysis
• Design and help implement DevOps practices, including automated CI/CD pipelines and environment setup (Dev, QA, UAT, Prod, DR)
• Engage fully in the Agile SDLC, including stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
• Plan and coordinate cross-team activities to ensure timely delivery
• Mentor and guide engineers on design and implementation best practices
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred
• Strong object-oriented design expertise, including design patterns, SOLID principles, and modern engineering practices
• Strong proficiency in Java (preferred) and/or Python, with experience building scalable, high-performance services
• 6+ years of professional software development experience using Java, J2EE, Python, Spring Boot, and Microservices
• 2-5 years of experience working with React, component-based architecture, JavaScript, Typescript, and DOM
• 2+ years of experience designing and deploying applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
• Experience contributing to operating model design, process definition, or complex cross-functional initiatives
• Excellent execution skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through
• Clear, structured communicator comfortable engaging stakeholders across varying levels of seniority
• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, multi-workstream environment
• Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) is a plus
• This role requires weekly office presence

Minimum Salary:
zł132 000 Annual
The minimum salary quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate ultimately works outside of this primary location, the applicable minimum salary may differ.
Salary will be determined based on factors such as the position, type of work performed, individual skills, job description, working hours, diligence, initiative, self-management, length of employment, availability, and the quantity and quality of work delivered, as well as other objective and non-discriminatory criteria relevant to State Street employees.
In addition to salary, employees are eligible to be considered for discretionary annual performance-based awards.
