Role Purpose
Application Delivery & Load Balancing Engineer- Epic ,will contribute to the design, development, optimisation, and operational management of our Client’s Epic EPR solution, at the Load Balancing and Presentation layers.  This includes ensuring secure, resilient, and high‑performance access to Epic for clinical and operational users across the users organisation, leveraging expertise in Load Balancing technologies (e.g. NetScaler) as well as Citrix, VMware Horizon, and related infrastructure components to underpin the Epic environment. 
The role ensures that these services are secure, resilient, and fit for purpose, supporting organisational objectives through high‑quality technical knowledge and experience, strong service management practices, and the application of recognised engineering standards. The postholder manages complex technical activities related to Epic application delivery and availability alongside Epic experts, contributing to platform optimisation strategy, and provides expertise in the deployment and management of Load Balancing, for secure, efficient access. 
The role also supports compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement across the environment, ensuring robust and seamless delivery of Epic services to end users. Provide subject matter expertise for the architecture, design, and lifecycle planning of end user and application delivery platforms, with a keen emphasis on the Epic ecosystem and its associated Load Balancing configurations.
Epic is a leading Electronic Health Record (EHR) system used to securely store and manage patient health information, giving clinicians quick access to medical histories, test results, and care plans to support coordinated, high‑quality care.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as an expert in the support of application delivery and architecture, primarily NetScaler (Citrix ADC) as well as Citrix, and VMware Horizon presentation platforms.
• Ensure stability and performance of Epic access layers.
• Lead resolution of complex incidents and provide escalation guidance.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for architectures, configurations, and support procedures.
• Ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee certificate management, integrations, TLS hardening, and secure configurations.
• Support risk assessment and mitigation for external access platforms.
• Contribute to development and update of DR strategies
• Lead testing and validation to meet recovery objectives.
• Work with various teams to ensure coordinated service delivery.
• Advise on projects and technical stakeholder access implications.
• Contribute to change governance and execution across platforms.
• Contribute to service enhancements, capacity planning, technology refresh, and tuning.
• Assess emerging technologies to recommend improvements in access, reliability, and clinician experience.
Technical Competencies
• Deep expertise in Load Balancing e.g. NetScaler, as well as Citrix, and VMware Horizon presentation platforms. 
• Advanced knowledge of virtualisation, identity management, certificates, and secure platform design.
• Provide technical direction and resolve cross-stack issues.
• Contribute to scalable, secure architectures for Epic presentation layer designs.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Apply best practices and architectural frameworks.
• Stay current on security standards and threats.
• Align activities with compliance requirements.
• Integrate security throughout engineering processes.
• Training on Epic applications available to post holder 
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
• Deep expertise within Citrix NetScaler/ADC, including configuration, optimisation, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments
• Demonstrable experience delivering highly available, low‑latency access at enterprise scale
• Strong understanding of authentication services, certificates, TLS, and secure access patterns
• Strong communication and documentation skills, with ability to produce clear technical documentation for diverse audiences
• Proven experience in incident management, escalation procedures, and resolution of complex technical issues
• Knowledge of change governance, change management processes, and controlled deployment methodologies
Desirable
• Strong working knowledge of Citrix or Omnissa/VMware Horizon environments and their integration with access platforms
• Professional certifications such as Citrix CCE‑V/CCP‑V, Citrix ADC, or VMware VCP
• Experience in regulated, enterprise‑scale, or public sector healthcare Managed Services environments
• Knowledge of ITIL processes, structured change management, and service management best practices
• Experience with Disaster Recovery (DR) planning, testing, and validation to meet recovery objectives
• Familiarity with Epic EHR systems and their integration with application delivery platforms
• Experience in capacity planning, performance tuning, and technology refresh initiatives
Training on Epic applications available to post holder 
You must be based in the UK and be eligible to pass BPSS checks.
