Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Volunteer Programs, Annual Giving Officer, Volunteer Programs focuses on soliciting and increasing donations from volunteer members of giving circles and collective giving groups, such as reunion classes, and affinity or identity-based groups. The incumbent actively participates in and manages activities related to the planning and execution of volunteer-based fundraising programs by creating strategies, identifying and recruiting volunteers and soliciting individuals to support various priorities of the University. The incumbent oversees alumni and other constituents, and develops the pipeline of philanthropic leaders.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Manager, Volunteer Programs on the identification and recruitment of fundraising volunteers with the goal of increasing Leadership level ($1,000+) giving through the McGill Fund.

• Participate in  Annual Giving volunteer programs including, but not limited to, the McGill Fund Leadership Council (MFLC), the Reunion Giving program, and other affinity or identity-based groups or circles as the opportunities arise.

• Participate in the development of annual goals and objectives for volunteer fundraising programs and initiatives.

• Participate in target setting for volunteer programs and monitor performance against fundraising objectives.

• Act as an internal subject-matter expert and provide volunteer-focused fundraising expertise to colleagues across UA

• Recruit, train and support volunteer fundraisers who have the capacity to make annual gifts at the Leadership/Special giving levels ($1K-$25K).

• In collaboration with Donor Relations, participate in the development of a stewardship program for class gifts and other group fundraising projects.

• Complete contact reports to ensure qualifications and visits are tracked and followed up, as appropriate.

• In collaboration with Communications, monitor the effectiveness of training material and fundraising toolkits and modify as needed.

• Participate in the ongoing integration and volunteer training of software and tools that will be required for volunteer fundraising programs.

• Communicate regularly with fundraising volunteers to set philanthropic goals, plan initiatives, motivate and update them on their efforts and successes, with occasional travel for face-to-face visits.

• Guide and support volunteer fundraisers in peer-to-peer solicitation strategies.

• In collaboration with Communications, participate in the development of reunion solicitation materials, including direct, email and social media communications.

• Collaborate with other members of the Annual Giving team to ensure that strategies fit into overall direct marketing, solicitation and stewardship plans.

• Collaborate with other members of the Annual Giving team to leverage other solicitation channels such as phone, crowdfunding or other strategies as needed.

• Work in partnership with cohort-based alumni engagement and stewardship leads on the identification of engagement/recognition opportunities that are meaningful to volunteer-based group donors.

• Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

• Undergraduate degree

• Three (3) years related experience

• Development experience required.  Experience in cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects a plus. Experience with volunteer management a plus.

• Strong interpersonal leadership and communication skills (English and French, verbal and writing).

• Advanced writing proficiency in English

• Strong organizational and planning skills for balancing multiple projects and tasks.

• Strong analytical and technical aptitude with an attention to detail.

• Demonstrated ability in a PC environment, proficient using MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), client-server database software and sound knowledge of social media tools.

• Ability to analyze and read data, determining and acting on trends.

• Desire to be part of a strong team.

• Ability to occasionally work evenings and few weekends per year.
