Awanui Labs is seeking a fulltime pathologist for our Awanui Dunedin Anatomical Pathology department.

Awanui Labs Dunedin is part of the Awanui Group. Awanui is the largest provider of Pathology services in New Zealand and have laboratories throughout the country. We have provided pathology services to doctors and patients in New Zealand since 1960. Awanui Dunedin provides all community and hospital pathology services for the Otago and Southland region and a nationwide cytology service.

At our Dunedin site we currently have 9 anatomical pathologists and 4 registrars operating out of a modern, spacious building that is dedicated to histology, cytology and the required support services. There is a wide range of diagnostic work available to cater for interests in subspecialty anatomical pathology.  You will have access to state-of-the-art, on-site diagnostic immunohistochemistry with highly competent histology technical staff and a full range of diagnostic molecular testing services.

Competency in general surgical pathology is essential. Expertise in gastrointestinal, gynaecological and dermatopathology would be advantageous. There is no autopsy pathology. The successful candidate would be expected to be an enthusiastic educator and participate in registrar training.

Dunedin is located on the South Island of New Zealand and is one of most appealing cities in the Southern Hemisphere. Dunedin has retained many of its late Victorian and Edwardian era public buildings in a unique harbour setting. Dunedin’s relatively low population makes it easy to enjoy its many cultural and tourist attractions. The internationally recognised charms of central Otago and the Southern Alps are only short drive from the city.

The successful candidate will need to hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or a recognised postgraduate qualification and be eligible for registration as a specialist pathologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
