Purpose of the role:
The analyst supports the full range of Crisis Group’s day-to-day advocacy efforts towards the United Nations (UN) institutions and member states, monitors events in the Security Council and other UN forums relevant to Crisis Group’s work, and contributes to UN-related research, analysis, and writing. They also, alongside the Head of UN Affairs and the Director of Global Issues and Institutions, represent Crisis Group at the UN.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as a point of contact within Crisis Group for monitoring policy developments that are relevant for Crisis Group regional programs, as well as on issues of cross-cutting relevance, including conflict prevention, peacekeeping, sanctions etc.
• In coordination with the Head of UN Affairs, build and maintain a strong network of contacts within UN member states (with a particular focus on the Security Council) and across the UN’s peace and security pillar.
• Support the design and delivery of targeted advocacy plans towards stakeholders at the UN, and represent Crisis Group at formal and informal meetings with UN officials, diplomats, think tanks, NGOs, academics, etc.
• Contribute to the organisation of Crisis Group’s activities around the annual high-level session of the UN General Assembly, along with other major events in the UN calendar.
• Collaborate with colleagues to produce written work that shapes analysis and policy debates about the UN’s peace and security activities on country-specific, regional, and thematic files that are relevant to Crisis Group’s priorities.
• In coordination with regional programs and relevant colleagues, deliver oral briefings to relevant stakeholders on Crisis Group policy positions and activities, and support Crisis Group staff’s research and advocacy visits to the UN.
• Represent Crisis Group policies and analysis in public-facing media engagements.
• Support Crisis Group’s day-to-day fundraising work with permanent missions accredited to the UN, in coordination with the Development Team.
• Coordinate with Crisis Group’s colleagues in Global Issues and Institutions Program on cross-cutting initiatives and other programmatic issues as necessary.
