The Opportunity

The Senior Analyst, Grants Management (Analyst II) support the financial and grants-related operations of CEO’s $100M+ organizational portfolio. Both roles assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, reports, and analyses that help leadership understand business performance, trends, compliance requirements, and financial outlooks.

The AGM acts as the day-to-day contact for insights and analytics to the SMGM and Program Leadership. This role works on both pre-award and post award deliverables and candidates are expected to be able to pivot between pre- and post activities.
Both levels act as key contacts to internal stakeholders on grant performance, compliance, and financial analytics. The Senior Analyst operates with greater independence, handles more complex funding portfolios, conducts deeper financial analysis, and serves as the primary analytical partner for Finance and Program leadership.

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people recently released from incarceration. Across the United States, 8,000-9,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 30,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996.

Education & Experience Requirements

• You have at least 2+ years’ experience in grants management pre and post award activities, including grant budget preparation, grant reporting, and grant analysis, in the not-for-profit industry

• You have a foundational understanding of non-profit budgeting, planning, reporting, and costing/profitability methodologies and processes;

• You have familiarity with government, corporate, and foundation grant compliance

• You have knowledge of grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants. Preferred - Experience with funding and reporting requirements for Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Caltrans, Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), NY Dept. of Probation, Workforce Accelerator Fund, and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

• You have knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounts Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements.

• You have strong computer skills, including high-level knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (Pivot tables and VLOOKUPs). Working knowledge of Adaptive Insights and Intacct a plus.

• You have experience with Adaptive Insights or Intacct a plus

• You have at least 3+ years of experience, with demonstrated success managing complex funding portfolios.

• You have demonstrated the ability to operate with greater independence and judgment

• You have stronger cross-functional communication skills, especially with senior leaders

• You can identify and recommend solutions to emerging financial or compliance issues

• You have demonstrated experience supporting or leading key components of audits and high-complexity grant reporting

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Key responsibilities of the Analyst II, Grants Management include but are not limited to:

Grants Support

Pre-Award:

• Participate in meetings with Program team members in advance of preparing budgets

• Prepare or assist in the preparation of grants budget and the budget modification process

• Assist in implementing grants and contracts policies and procedures as well as ensure the compliance to these policies and internal controls as it relates to budget preparation.

Post Award:

• Prepare or assist in the preparation of grants, contracts, and all restricted funds reporting

• Assist in preparing and updating the grants and contracts master schedule which includes dates for renewals, reporting and invoicing

• Help to ensure compliance of our grants and contracts with government agencies and funders’ policies and procedures

• Assist with the preparation of the monthly grants and contract budget vs. actuals report, grants usage report and other reports as needed

• Prepare or assist in the preparation of schedules, analyses and documents needed for funder and financial audits

• Participate in meetings with Program to review receivables and expenditures related to grants and contracts

• Support SMGM and CEO colleagues to develop and implement strategies to optimize revenue and fullest cost recovery

• Function as a resource to colleagues in the administration of internal and external requirements of grants and contracts

• Perform other grants management duties as assigned.

Team, Departmental and Organizational Support

• Serve as an active and proactive contributor and collaborator of the larger Finance team

• Collaborate with other departments to achieve organization goals

• Act as a senior lead in SMGM’s absence

Additional Responsibilities

• Serve as the day-to-day analytics and insights lead for Finance and Program management, providing deeper interpretation of trends, risks, and financial performance.

• Lead preparation of complex grant portfolios, including multi-year, multi-site, or high-compliance government awards.

• Conduct advanced financial modeling and variance analysis to support organizational forecasting and decision-making.

• Identify emerging issues in grant performance and proactively recommend corrective actions.

• Independently prepare sophisticated analyses for executive-level review.

• Serve as the senior functional lead in SMFGM’s absence, ensuring continuity of grants management operations.

• Help mentor junior analysts by modeling strong analytical and problem-solving approaches.

• Senior Analyst Differentiator: Represent the grants management function with greater independence and authority in meetings with senior Program and Finance stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $72,500-77,200/annually. CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
