This Ambassador role will assist in promoting USAC programs and supporting university staff with advising and administrative tasks.
Required Skills
Job Description
The intent of the program is to add a student employee position with specific focus on USAC programs. The position can be adapted to comply with preexisting university student employee structure and policy.
The primary objective of this position is to increase on-campus expertise and knowledge of USAC programs and to assist university staff in increasing support to students choosing and preparing to depart on USAC programs.
The job responsibilities for the USAC Ambassador may include advising, outreach, and administrative support to the university’s study abroad office, with advising and outreach being the main focus of the position. In addition to the university/study abroad office-assigned tasks and projects, USAC may require the Ambassadors to complete certain objectives throughout the year. USAC-assigned projects may include tabling, presentations, hosting info sessions, reviewing their USAC program, creating promotional materials, organizing alumni events, and more. Some potential sample tasks are listed below:
ADVISING RESPONSIBILITIES COULD INCLUDE:
serving as first point of contact with prospective students
representing and maintaining resource rooms
holding open office hours
holding advising coffee/Q&A hours or program-specific sessions
updating materials and program information
creating web content of their own experience abroad
other related projects to further promote study abroad and USAC opportunities
OUTREACH ACTIVITIES COULD INCLUDE:
writing materials and resources
classroom/event presentations or panel discussions
helping with special events (fairs/expos, study abroad 101 sessions, program-specific information sessions)
hosting tables/booths in high traffic areas
creating/designing pamphlets, posters, web resources, flyers, digital outreach, social media as appropriate
assist with campus visits of USAC reps
REQUIREMENTS:
Alum of USAC program (note: due to lower numbers during the pandemic, we understand that hiring a USAC alum may not be possible; we will allow an alum of any program or even a student who has not yet studied abroad, if necessary)
Full-time student
Willingness to serve as a positive representative of USAC and the university’s study abroad office
The position can be adapted for internships or a graduate assistant-level version (for example, a position could be adapted to focus on writing/new media/event planning/advertising/student services/region-specific or language expertise). Additionally, if a previous USAC Ambassador is still a full-time student who meets these requirements, they are more than welcome to continue into the following school year.
