The Alumni Coordinator supports long‑term recovery by supporting an alumni program for individuals transitioning from addiction treatment services. This role provides peer‑based support, facilitates alumni engagement activities, and serves as a primary point of contact for former clients following discharge. Using lived experience and recovery‑oriented principles, the Alumni Coordinator strengthens connection, continuity of care, and ongoing engagement beyond treatment while helping build a recovery‑focused alumni community that offers meaningful connection, shared purpose, and continued support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in the development, coordination, and ongoing improvement of the agency’s alumni program.
Plan and facilitate alumni engagement activities, including sober events, peer support groups, reunions, and celebrations
Facilitate in‑person and virtual groups for alumni and individuals preparing for discharge
Serve as the primary point of contact for alumni, providing follow‑up support and ongoing engagement after discharge
Conduct structured outreach to monitor recovery progress and connect alumni to community resources
Use lived experience to build trust, offer encouragement, and promote motivation and resilience
Engage current patients during treatment through groups, activities, and engagement surveys
Support alumni experiencing relapse by assisting with re‑entry into treatment and transitions between levels of care
Collaborate with clinical and operational staff while maintaining peer role integrity and ethical boundaries
Recruit alumni to participate in graduations, speaking opportunities, and agency events
Build community relationships with recovery organizations, referral partners, and other stakeholders
Support outreach and business development efforts, including referral follow‑up when appropriate
Track alumni engagement, outreach efforts, and outcomes; complete required documentation and reports
Ensure all post‑discharge communications are consented, accurate, timely, and professional
Uphold confidentiality and professional standards at all times
Qualifications
Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) through a DBHDS‑approved certifying body or Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) through the Virginia Board of Counseling required
Experience providing peer support, outreach, or recovery‑focused services preferred
Experience planning activities, building engagement, or developing community partnerships preferred
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Basic computer skills and ability to complete required documentation and tracking
Valid driver’s license required
Current certification in CPR & First Aid
Verification of tuberculosis screening required
Successful completion of DBHDS criminal background investigation and central registry checks
