🍃 🕵️ The challenge of being a Tech Lead

You will be part of the Computational Agronomy (CompAg) team, responsible for transforming science and data into agronomic intelligence at Syngenta Digital. Our work feeds models and generates insights that support farmers and consultants around the world.

Being a Tech Lead here is not just about technically leading a team, it is about playing a central role in building the future of the company's platform and AI strategy. You will be at the intersection of artificial intelligence research, software engineering, product, and business, acting as the person who transforms innovation into real, scalable, and reliable solutions for millions of users in the field.

• Translate product vision and business needs into scalable technical solutions, transforming ideas and canvases into clear, estimable, and executable implementation plans;
• Lead the definition of the technical architecture of the AI platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, maintainability, and sustainable evolution over time;
• Act as a technical reference for the team, supporting complex decisions, unlocking critical challenges, and raising the quality level of deliveries;
• Actively develop code in strategic features, proofs of concept, critical integrations, and high-impact technical initiatives;
• Design, implement, and evolve AI platforms in production, including agentic workflows, LLMs-based applications, and preparation for MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers;
• Define and uphold engineering standards, development best practices, code review, versioning, testing, CI/CD, and quality gates;
• Conduct technical and architectural reviews, evaluating trade-offs between innovation, stability, cost, and delivery time;
• Work closely with Product Managers and stakeholders to assess technical feasibility, scope, and prioritization, supporting strategic roadmap decisions;
• Manage stakeholders' technical expectations, communicating risks, limitations, dependencies, and impacts clearly and objectively;
• Ensure continuity of technical knowledge by documenting architectural decisions and supporting the transition from a contractor-dependent model to a more FTE-oriented team;
• Mentor engineers and data scientists in software engineering best practices, going beyond the traditional scope of data science;
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including agronomists, data scientists, engineering, and business, translating domain needs into technical solutions;
• Evaluate, test, and integrate new technologies, frameworks, and AI approaches in a pragmatic and value-oriented manner;
• Monitor the performance, reliability, and quality of solutions in production, promoting continuous improvements and optimizations;
• Act as a bridge between AI research, software engineering, and the delivery of digital products with real impact in the field.

• Solid and progressive experience in software development, with consistent performance in technical leadership;
• Experience leading architectural and technical decisions in medium to high complexity products or platforms;
• Track record of working in lean environments, with a high degree of autonomy, responsibility, and ambiguity;
• Strong ability to translate product and business requirements into well-structured and estimable technical solutions;
• Strong command of software engineering applied to distributed systems and products in production;
• Practical experience with developing and operating AI solutions, including LLMs and applications based on advanced models;
• Proven ability to design and evolve scalable architectures in cloud environments;
• Experience balancing hands-on code with high-level technical and architectural decisions;
• Familiarity or quick learning ability with emerging architectures, such as MCP (Model Context Protocol);
•  Maturity to evaluate technical trade-offs between speed, quality, cost, and scalability
• Ability to establish technical standards that support growth without compromising agility;
• Experience in environments that require a high level of reliability, quality, and technical responsibility;
• Clear and structured communication with technical and non-technical audiences;
• Ability to influence technical and strategic decisions;
• Collaborative, solution-oriented attitude and focus on real impact;
• Genuine interest in applying AI to complex real-world problems;
• Curiosity to learn new domains and transform knowledge into technical solutions;
