Orbital is the category defining AI industrial hardware company. Our goal is to use AI to catalyse a renaissance in critical industries, starting with compute and energy. We're doing this by building AI systems that design new industrial hardware from "the atoms up" - everything from new advanced materials, to mechanical, chemical and manufacturing engineering designs. We then make and sell these pieces of hardware to customers. Our first products are for the data centre industry - solving the most critical challenges in thermal management and sustainability.

In AI circles we're best known for building the world's best foundation model for materials - Orb.

About The Program

The AI Residency program is a 2 year program targeting people with exceptional technical backgrounds but no professional or PhD experience in AI. This program is suitable for recent graduates in technical disciplines. As part of this program you will work on high impact AI projects at Orbital. Some example projects might be:

• Scaling up the distributed training of large scale generative models of crystal structures

• Internal LLM evals for scientific and engineering reasoning

• RL fine tuning for advanced materials discovery

What We're Looking For

• Strong mathematics and statistical knowledge, especially linear algebra

• Strong algorithms and data structures knowledge

• Strong programming skills and familiarity with high performance computing concepts

• Examples of outstanding technical achievements

• There is no requirement to have worked in AI or machine learning before
