Responsibilities
Assist in developing and refining AI-based OCR pipelines for handwritten and printed medical documents
Support evaluation and improvement of data extraction accuracy and reliability
Participate in transitioning an AI Proof of Concept into a production-ready Minimum Viable Product
Contribute to software integration with laboratory information systems
Assist with testing, validation, and technical documentation
Communicate technical progress and findings to project stakeholders
Learning Objectives
Apply AI and OCR techniques to a real healthcare automation problem
Gain experience moving AI solutions from prototype to MVP
Develop familiarity with medical laboratory workflows and healthcare IT systems
Work under the supervision and mentorship of experienced AI and healthcare technology professionals
Build applied research and industry experience relevant to graduate study or full-time employment
Qualifications
Required:
Current enrollment in or recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, Biomedical Informatics, or a related technical field
Preferred:
Coursework or experience in machine learning, OCR, or computer vision; interest in healthcare technology and applied artificial intelligence; strong analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills
Academic Level
Upper-division undergraduate students or graduate students preferred
Additional Information
This internship is a temporary, at-will position. Employment may be ended at any time by either the intern or 4medica, consistent with California employment law. Based on project outcomes and organizational needs, successful completion of the internship may lead to consideration for a full-time role.
