Job Description
The AI Analyst, Commerce Systems is a newly created, AI-first lead role responsible for owning and transforming the end-to-end Commerce Systems domain — spanning Point of Sale (POS) and Ecommerce platforms. In this non-traditional business analyst, domain transformation role, the person in this seat will systematically replace manual, human-heavy workflows with AI-powered automations, prompts, and scalable intelligent processes. Operating as a product owner accountable to both IT and the business, this role serves as the primary bridge among stakeholders, subject-matter experts, vendors, and technical teams. At 12 months, success is defined by a Commerce Systems domain that is well-documented, automated, and increasingly self-sustaining, driven by the design and implementation of this role.
Essential Job Functions:
• AI-First Delivery — Default to AI tools for every deliverable. Use automation, prompt engineering, and AI-assisted workflows to produce BRDs, SOWs, training content, process maps, and communications faster and at higher quality than traditional methods. Continuously identify where human effort can be replaced or accelerated by AI.
• Workflow Ownership — Own and maintain end-to-end Commerce Systems workflows across POS and Ecommerce. Document current-state processes, engineer future-state improvements, and publish actionable swim-lane diagrams and SOPs that stakeholders can execute against.
• Business Requirements (BRD) Building — Lead requirements elicitation with business stakeholders and SMEs. Produce AI-assisted BRDs and functional specifications that are precise, testable, and ready for development or vendor engagement.
• Automation & Process Engineering — Identify manual processes across the Commerce domain and systematically automate them. Design and implement workflow automations, triggers, and integrations that reduce friction, improve data accuracy, and free up business capacity.
• System Integrations — Document, support, and coordinate API and data integrations between POS, E-commerce, ERP, and third-party platforms. Clarify field mappings, partner with vendors and engineers on schema design, and ensure integration reliability.
• SOW Development — Draft Statements of Work for vendor engagements, system implementations, and integration projects. Define scope, deliverables, timelines, and acceptance criteria. Hold vendors accountable to SOW commitments throughout the engagement lifecycle.
• Vendor Management — Serve as the primary IT point of contact for Commerce Systems vendors (Shopify, RetailCloud, and related platforms). Manage roadmap reviews, escalations, and performance expectations. Ensure vendor delivery aligns with business outcomes.
• Training Content Building — Produce role-specific, AI-generated training materials, including guides, quick-reference cards, and knowledge base articles. Design onboarding flows for new users of Commerce platforms and keep content current with system changes.
• Change Management — Lead system change management for Commerce domain initiatives. Coordinate UAT, manage stakeholder communication, and ensure releases are adopted with minimal disruption. Draft change plans and post-go-live support runbooks.
• Reporting & Insights Support — Define and validate Commerce KPIs (conversion, order accuracy, inventory sync, fulfillment SLAs). Partner with BI and data teams to ensure reporting reflects accurate, trusted Commerce data. Surface insights that drive business decisions.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ Years in Business Process & Change Management — Demonstrated track record of leading process transformation, managing stakeholder change, and delivering measurable operational improvements.
• AI Automation & Workflow Experience — Hard Requirement — Proficiency with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) as part of daily workflow is required. Proven advanced ability to build automations, engineer prompts, and produce business-grade deliverables using AI.
• POS & Ecommerce Systems Experience — Hands-on experience with Shopify, RetailCloud, or comparable POS and Ecommerce platforms. Understands order management, inventory sync, fulfillment workflows, and system configuration.
• API & Data Integration Experience — Working knowledge of API and data integrations, including vendor coordination, field mapping, testing, and troubleshooting. Does not need to be an engineer, but must be able to work fluently alongside them.
• Process Engineering — Proven ability to analyze legacy or manual workflows, identify inefficiencies, and design modern, automated replacements. Legacy-to-modern migration experience strongly preferred.
• Vendor Management — Experience managing vendor relationships with accountability to deliverables, timelines, and SOW commitments, beyond basic relationship maintenance.
• Strong Written Communication — Able to independently produce BRDs, SOWs, training content, and stakeholder communications. AI-assisted writing is expected and encouraged; quality and clarity are the standard.
• AI-Native Mindset — Defaults to AI-assisted creation. Constantly evaluating what can be automated, prompted, or eliminated.
• Domain Ownership — Takes full accountability for the Commerce Systems domain. Takes initiative to identify gaps and drives solutions.
• Stakeholder Communication — Ability to translate technical complexity into plain business language. Equally effective with executives, SMEs, engineers, and vendors.
• Process Engineering Instinct — Identifies manual work as an opportunity for improvement, with a strong bias toward automation, standardization, and scalable solutions.
• Systems Thinking — Understands upstream and downstream impact of changes across integrated POS, E-commerce, and ERP environments.
• Organized & Self-Directed — Manages multiple concurrent workstreams without close supervision. Delivers on time with minimal rework.
• Collaborative & Low-Ego — Works effectively across IT, business, and vendor teams. Ability to earn trust through competence and follow-through.
• Continuous Improvement Orientation — Continuously challenges the status quo, proactively driving ongoing improvements.
