Position Title: Adult Education Teacher- Part-Time Contract
April – June - Potential to renew each year in September
Position Description: The Adult Education Teacher is to prepare and present curriculum in accordance with the Ministry of Education via an adult education center. In carrying out these responsibilities the teacher must, whenever possible, relate the curriculum to Anishinaabe culture and values.
Major Responsibilities:
Carry out the duties of a teacher as outlined in the Education Act within the Province of Ontario
Maintain a day book of lessons
Participate in the development, implementation and review of curriculum
Be sensitive to the needs of individual students, especially adults returning after a prolonged absence from school
Advertise and market the Adult Education program via FWFN’s newsletters and social media page
Submit reporting documentation as required
Outline OSSD achievement process, track OSSD individual goals
Determine PLAR assessments necessity, administer and mark PLAR assessments
Co-ordinate Co-op placements
Mark all coursework and record results- Complete report cards
Plan land-based and cultural learning opportunities for students
Help students complete the Senior Equivalency Assessment (SEA) and align SEA application with curriculum documents to determine credits to be awarded. Submit results to SGEI
Keep attendance records
Inventory and order all program supplies
Plan, purchase and arrange student incentives, including classroom snacks
Conduct yourself as a role model for students
Plan annual celebrations including Christmas and end of year/graduation
Become involved in professional development activities in your teaching specialty
Participate in community activities to develop a better rapport and understanding of the students
Maintain a liaison with community leaders and Elders in the Robinson-Superior Treaty Area
Lead ongoing student recruitment efforts to support program enrollment and participation
Build and maintain relationships with internal departments, community partners, and local high schools
Conduct community outreach and engagement activities to promote adult education programs
Attend community events, career fairs, and functions to represent the program
Develop and implement creative recruitment strategies tailored to the community
Create content for online promotion (e.g., social media posts, flyers) and submit for approval and distribution
Share program information with prospective students and community members
Identify new opportunities for outreach, partnerships, and program visibility
Work independently with a high level of initiative and autonomy in recruitment efforts
Monitor and contribute to increased enrollment and active participation in programming
Other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications:
The position requires an Ontario Teachers Certificate with membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with qualifications in required subject areas and grade level
Subject to a criminal records check
