ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR

As an Activities Coordinator at Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles, you will plan, lead, and carry out therapeutic recreational activities that are meant to help people with serious behavioral health problems feel better mentally, emotionally, and physically. You perform duties under the guidance of a Recreational Therapist or Director of Activity Therapy to make sure that the environment is safe, organized, and interesting for patients so that they can reach their treatment and recovery goals. 

POSITION SUMMARY:
The activity therapist coordinator plans, directs,and coordinate medically-approved activities within the
psychiatric program schedule for patients within the facility. The activities include leisure skills, social activities,
physical/exercise, cognitive challenges and arts and crafts. The Activity Therapist Coordinator assesses the
patients’ leisure, social, and recreation status as part of the overall biopsychosocial assessment process. The
Activity Therpist participates as a member of the treatment team; formulating goals and interventions based offthe
identified needs of the patients’ condition and recommends appropriate recreational activity. The ActivityTherpaist
Coordinator provides groups aimed at development of the patient’s social, leisure and physical needs. The Activity
Therpaist demionstrates the ability to accurately provide the groups and document the patient’s response to the
interventions. The Activity Therpaist Coordinator incorporates the response to the group interventions into the
patient’s plan of care.The Activity Therpaist Coordinator provides support to the clinical department through
teamwork and input into the patient’s overall psychosocial needs. Activity Therapy The coordinator is under the
supervision of a licensed and/or certified recreation therapist, or a professional who holds education/experience
and certification course work as indicated by state mandate. The supervisor is under the direction of the Clinical
Services Director.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: High School Degree.
License: Supervision of a licensed and or certified recreation therapist, or a professional who
holds education/experience and certification course work as indicated by state mandate
Experience: One year experience performing functional activy duties in a Healthcare setting.
