Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles is an expanding psychiatric hospital committed to providing quality care to both adult and geriatric populations. We are proud to cultivate a compassionate, team-oriented environment that supports both our patients and our staff. Since opening our first facility in Magnolia, Mississippi in 2015, we have grown to include 12 locations across Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi.
As we continue to grow, we are actively expanding our Lake Charles team in preparation for increasing our capacity to 46 beds, allowing us to better serve both adult and geriatric patient populations.
The Activities Coordinator at Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating therapeutic and recreational activities that promote patients’ mental, emotional, and social well-being. This role involves developing structured daily schedules that incorporate group therapy support, music, exercise, life skills training, and opportunities for social interaction.
Activities are thoughtfully designed to help patients strengthen coping skills, reduce stress, build confidence, and encourage positive behaviors. The coordinator collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary clinical team—including physicians, nurses, and therapists—to ensure all activities align with each patient’s individualized treatment plan and current mental health status.
In addition, the Activities Coordinator monitors participation, documents patient progress, and modifies activities as needed to meet individual needs and maintain safety. They also play a key role in creating a safe, supportive environment that promotes engagement and fosters a sense of community within the hospital. Strong communication, creativity, empathy, and organizational skills are essential for success in this position.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: High School Degree.
License: Supervision of a licensed and or certified recreation therapist, or a professional who
holds education/experience and certification course work as indicated by state mandate
Experience: One year experience performing functional activy duties in a Healthcare setting.
