Job Description

You will join the Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection Unit (HSE), which supports the organisation in implementing and enforcing its environmental policy. Within HSE, the Environment Group monitors the environmental impact of activities and advises on improvement measures. As part of the Prevention and Monitoring section, you will contribute to the EnNoMoS project, which aims to design and deploy a continuous environmental noise monitoring system across CERN sites. The system will provide 24/7 online monitoring and support environmental oversight by delivering reliable noise data for analysis and reporting.

Your responsibilities:

• Manage, and contribute to upgrade our 24/7 noise monitoring infrastructure, ensuring continuous and reliable operation.
• Interpret monitoring data and produce clear, detailed noise reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct noise surveys to gather accurate and actionable data in the environment or at the workplace, including outside regular office hours (nighttime).
• Use industry-leading acoustic software to model noise impacts and support evidence-based decision-making.
• Lead noise studies across environmental, building, and workplace projects, driving best practices and compliance.
• Investigate noise complaints and raise awareness of environmental noise issues among all stakeholders, fostering a culture of environmentally responsible research.

Your profile:

• Proven experience in acoustics or a related field, preferably gained in consultancy or similar technical environment.
• Experience in conducting environmental noise surveys, including advanced noise monitoring techniques such as noise power level measurement.
• Experience in the setup, calibration, maintenance, and data management of continuous (24/7) monitoring systems, ensuring reliable long-term operation and data quality.
• Proficiency in analysing and visualising large datasets using tools such as Excel or Power BI.
• Hands-on experience with environmental noise modelling software, such as CadnaA.

Skills:

• Proficiency in analysing and visualising large acoustic datasets using tools such as Excel or Power BI.
• Strong ability to produce high-quality, well-structured acoustic and environmental noise reports.
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• You have a professional background in Acoustics, Vibrations or equivalent (or a related field) and have either:• a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
• or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Job closing date: 14.04.2026 at 23:59 CEST. 

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Hybrid

Target start date: 01-September-2026

This position involves:

• Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays.
• Work in Radiation Areas.
• Interventions in underground installations.
• A valid driving licence.
• Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
