Job Description
LATAM Accounting Manager -- Montevideo, Uruguay
Role Summary
We're hiring an Accounting Manager based in Montevideo to own and oversee accounting and payroll operations for our Uruguay, Argentina, and Mexico entities, while also giving support to our U.S. entity. Depending on the country and function, this person will either perform accounting and payroll work directly or engage and manage local partners to do so. In either case, this role is accountable for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the output.
This role reports to the Director of Operations / President of LATAM Operations and will also support US accounting activities as needed.
This is a hands-on position. Whether you're doing the work yourself or managing a partner who is, you're the person responsible for making sure the books are clean, payroll runs smoothly, local tax and compliance obligations are met, and financial data flows accurately into our consolidated reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
• Own day-to-day accounting operations for the Uruguay, Argentina, and Mexico entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations -- performing this work directly or managing local accounting partners to do so.
• Execute or oversee bookkeeping, journal entries, and month-end close procedures across all three entities.
• Coordinate intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
• Prepare or contribute to monthly financial reporting packages for management and board-level review.
Payroll
• Own payroll processing for employees and contractors across Uruguay, Argentina, and Mexico -- either running payroll directly or managing local payroll partners to do so.
• Ensure payroll compliance with local labor laws, social security contributions, and withholding requirements in each jurisdiction.
• Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Partner Management
• Where local partners are used for accounting, tax, or payroll, serve as the primary point of contact. Define scope and deliverables, set deadlines, review work product, and hold partners accountable for quality and timeliness.
• Evaluate existing partner relationships on an ongoing basis and recommend changes when service levels are not met.
• Where work is brought in-house, build and document the processes needed to maintain the same standard of compliance and accuracy.
Compliance & Tax
• Ensure compliance with local tax filing requirements, statutory reporting obligations, and labor-related financial regulations in each jurisdiction -- whether handled in-house or through local partners.
• Support annual audits and tax filings across all three LATAM jurisdictions.
US Support & Cross-Functional
• Support the US accounting team with tasks such as AP processing, reconciliations, accruals, and audit preparation as needed.
• Assist with cash flow tracking and forecasting for LATAM operations.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency and accuracy of multi-entity accounting workflows.
Requirements
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years managing multi-country or multi-entity accounting.
• Experience with intercompany accounting and transfer pricing.
• Demonstrated experience both performing hands-on accounting work and managing external accounting or payroll service providers.
• Strong working knowledge of accounting and tax compliance requirements in Uruguay. Familiarity with Argentina and/or Mexico accounting, tax, and payroll regulations is strongly preferred.
• Fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal). English fluency is required -- this role communicates regularly with US-based leadership and teams.
• Experience managing payroll operations across multiple countries, either in-house or through external providers.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, scaling environment where processes are still being built.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Familiarity with US GAAP or experience supporting US-based accounting teams.
• Experience in a consulting, professional services, or technology company.
