About the role

You will own the day to day financial backbone of Symbolica and build the control environment that lets the business scale cleanly across the US and internationally. This role runs core accounting, close, reporting, and revenue recognition while coordinating audit, tax, and multi-entity operations with external partners. You will manage our bookkeeping team and outside finance support, impose rigor without slowing the company down, and ensure leadership always has accurate numbers, clear variance explanations, and no surprises.

📍 This is an onsite role based in our SF office (345 California St).

Your focus

• Own the monthly close and reporting cadence across all entities: GL integrity, reconciliations, accruals, consolidations, and management reporting with tight timelines.

• Lead revenue accounting and revenue recognition: contracts review, billing and collections coordination, deferred revenue, usage based or subscription logic, and documentation that stands up to audit.

• Manage cash and working capital: forecasts, burn tracking, vendor payment workflows, spend controls, and ongoing visibility for COO and leadership.

• Run audit and compliance execution: coordinate external auditors, prepare schedules, maintain supporting documentation, and upgrade internal controls as the company grows.

• Own tax operations across jurisdictions with advisors: income tax provision support, state nexus and registrations, sales and use tax, VAT where relevant, and transfer pricing readiness.

• Manage the finance operations stack and people: lead bookkeepers and external finance partners, improve systems , automate where possible, and set clear operating rhythms.

About you

• 5+ years in accounting or finance with controller or senior accounting ownership at a scaling company, with hands-on responsibility for close and audit.

• Strong international exposure across multi-entity and cross-border operations, including coordination with global tax advisors and comfort with VAT and foreign registrations.

• Deep knowledge of US GAAP and practical revenue recognition experience, with a track record of building defensible policies and documentation.

• Operationally sharp and systems-oriented: you know how to design clean workflows, maintain a high signal GL, and make the close faster and more reliable over time.

• Calm, low ego leader who can manage a team and external partners, push for accuracy and accountability, and communicate issues early with crisp solutions.
