Position Overview:
The Security Technician 1 at Pref-Tech will be responsible for assisting in installing access control, IP-based and analog video management systems, intrusion systems, and auto-gate equipment. Scope of duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with the installation of electrified locks, card readers, ancillary access-controlled door devices, IP and analog cameras, intrusion, and intercom systems. This person will need to be detail orientated and able to document and communicate effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the installation, configuration, and testing of access control, intrusion, and camera systems.
Assist in troubleshooting cabling, card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes, cameras, PLC, intrusion, and integrated systems.
Functional understanding of low voltage systems, relays, principals of normally closed/normally open, series and parallel wiring.
Use a multi-meter to test for voltage, continuity, and resistance.
Possess mechanical and computer skills and ability to effectively troubleshoot.
Operate any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
Adhere to company safety standards and protocols during all installations.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid TX Driver’s License.
0-2 year’s experience.
Capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to work efficiently without compromising quality or accuracy.
Ability to perform physical tasks like walking, standing, driving, lifting up to 50lbs unassisted, and ascending / descending ladders and stairs of varying heights with little to no limitation.
Currently licensed or must have the ability to obtain TXDPS Security License.
Have a valid TX driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in using hand tools for installation and maintenance tasks.
Familiarity with structured cabling systems
Experience working with network, security, or electrical cabling
OSHA 10 or 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).
Basic knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems and principles.

Work Hours & Travel:
Must be willing to work days and nights. There is no set schedule for field personnel, as work schedules vary depending on client needs. Travel is 10-20% to Pref-Tech offices, job sites.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform physical tasks like walking, standing, driving.
Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat and rain.
Capable of ascending and descending ladders (6–14 feet) and stairs of varying heights with minimal restrictions.
Willingness to work from a bucket truck as required for installations and maintenance.
