About the role
We're seeking an experienced Academic Governance and Compliance Lead to play a crucial role in guiding and overseeing Whitecliffe's academic governance, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement activities. Working closely with the Chief Academic Officer and Director of Operations, you will ensure that governance structures, committee operations, policies, and reporting frameworks are effective, consistent, well-documented, and demonstrably aligned with regulatory requirements and institutional priorities. You'll lead the coordination of academic governance committees — including the Academic Board and its standing committees — oversee the maintenance of governance and policy frameworks, and manage institutional compliance activities. This includes alignment with the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021 and, where applicable, the ESOS Act 2000 and National Code 2018. This is an opportunity to make a real difference — contributing directly to academic quality assurance and regulatory readiness.
About you
You're a capable professional with experience in academic governance, compliance, or quality assurance within higher education or a similarly regulated environment. You bring clarity and calm to complex regulatory landscapes and know how to translate policy into practice across an institution. People trust you because you're thorough, discreet, and always follow through. You're equally comfortable preparing board papers, managing TEQSA audit readiness, or coaching colleagues through compliance requirements. You thrive in a values-driven environment and take pride in building governance systems that are both robust and human.
What you will bring
Demonstrated experience in academic governance, compliance, or quality assurance within higher education or a comparable regulated environment
A relevant tertiary qualification in governance, education, administration, business, or a related discipline — or equivalent professional experience
Good working knowledge of the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021, including academic governance, quality assurance, and academic integrity requirements
Understanding of ESOS compliance requirements and associated regulatory obligations (where applicable)
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements in complex academic and governance contexts
Experience supporting course accreditation, re-accreditation, or provider registration processes within a higher education context
Demonstrated project management capability, including planning, coordinating, and delivering complex tasks to deadline
Ability to maintain Whitecliffe’s document management systems for governance, policy, compliance, and academic quality records, ensuring accessibility, version control, and audit readiness
Ability to provide high-level secretariat support to senior academic governance bodies, including Academic Board and standing committees
A proactive, discreet, and collegial approach — with a willingness to assist across a range of tasks
Working with Children Check clearance, or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement (desirable)
