Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded E-commerce Accountant to oversee financial operations for a growing direct-to-consumer apparel brand. This role is designed for a finance professional who understands the nuances of Shopify-based businesses, inventory-heavy models, and seasonal revenue cycles.

The ideal candidate will not only manage bookkeeping but also provide forward-looking cash flow forecasting and margin analysis to support strategic decision-making. This role works closely with leadership and external tax professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Bookkeeping

• Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly bookkeeping processes.
• Reconcile Shopify revenue across payment gateways, refunds, chargebacks, and fees.
• Maintain accurate general ledger and ensure timely month-end close.
• Track and categorize COGS across SKUs and product collections.
• Manage inventory accounting, including landed costs, freight, and duties.

Cash Flow & Forecasting

• Develop rolling 6–12 month cash flow forecasts.
• Model production cycles, supplier deposits, and seasonal sales fluctuations.
• Monitor burn rate and working capital requirements.
• Provide forward-looking financial insight tied to inventory purchasing and campaign cycles.

Reporting & Analysis

• Produce monthly P&L statements and margin breakdowns.
• Track gross margin and contribution margin by product category.
• Provide KPI reporting tied to revenue, inventory turnover, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with marketing and operations to align financial reporting with performance data.

Compliance & Tax Coordination

• Coordinate with external tax advisors for sales tax and year-end filings.
• Ensure compliance with ecommerce tax obligations and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare documentation required for audits or external reporting.

Requirements:
Qualifications

• 3+ years of e-commerce accounting experience.
• Strong experience working with Shopify and e-commerce payment platforms.
• Familiarity with inventory accounting in apparel or consumer goods.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Xero, A2X, or similar tools.
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets capabilities.
• Strong analytical and forecasting skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting seasonal DTC brands.
• Background in apparel, outdoor, or performance products.
• Ability to advise on financial strategy beyond transactional bookkeeping.
