3rd Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic

We are currently seeking to add a 3rd year Apprentice Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic to join our team based out of Leduc, AB
The Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic performs tasks in the mechanical servicing, repair, and maintenance of KBL’s fleet of heavy trucks and trailers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Services on equipment:
Inspecting and diagnosing problems with heavy trucks and trailer equipment
Complete necessary repairs and required maintenance as per the scheduled servicing
Conducting preventative maintenance to ensure the safe operation of equipment
Accurate and timely completion of work orders, including time and parts per repair
Collaborating with other mechanics and technicians to solve complex problems
Have experience with on highway units on operations and maintenance
Have computer skills to utilize equipment management programs and for completing equipment repair and maintenance logs
Hot work considered an asset:
Welding non-structural and non-frame components on equipment
Grinding and cutting with grinder
Oxy acetylene torch use
General metal working
Keeping the service bay and equipment clean:
Keep tools clean and stored when not in use
Ensure parts are where they should be
Assist Service Manager with parts and inventory management
Health and Safety:
Adhere to Health and Safety Management System, be familiar with and follow all applicable safe work practices, safe operating procedures, and safety specifications detailed in equipment manuals and manufacturer’s specifications
Ensure that those persons assisting in the shop are also following applicable safe work standards
Communicate any unsafe conditions or incidents and near misses to the Supervisor in a timely manner
Qualifications:
Experience working on Kenworth, Western Star with Side and End Dump Trailers
Possession of valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
Strong communication and organizational skills
Self-motivator willing to work overtime and weekends
Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing for extended periods, in addition to walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling with occasional sitting. Must be capable of heavy lifting and moving parts up to 75 lbs. on a consistent basis.
Working Environment:
Located at our KBL shop in Leduc, this job is on an 8 and 6 rotation, possibility of some overtime hours.
