With over 40 years of service in Emergency Medical Services, Associated Ambulance is the second-largest ambulance operator in the province.We provide Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Interfacility Transfer (IFT) services across 22 rural and 2 metropolitan locations in Alberta, supporting rural and regional healthcare systems through safe, reliable, and high-quality patient transfers.
Associated Ambulance is currently accepting expressions of interest for Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) to join our
Interfacility Transfer (IFT) teams based out of Red Deer AB or Acheson. EMRs play a vital role in ensuring safe, compassionate, and professional patient transfers between healthcare facilities while acting as patient advocates and collaborating closely with hospital staff and allied healthcare professionals.

Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Emergency Medical Responder program and active registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACoP)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider certification
Valid Alberta Class 4 Operator’s Licence with a clean driving abstract (5-year abstract required; no serious traffic violations)
Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) completed within the last six months
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
Proof of up-to-date vaccinations
Availability to attend required orientation and mentorship dates
Ability to work a variety of shifts, including potential short-notice coverage
Preferred:
Minimum 1 year of experience working in an EMS frontline role and/or a relevant healthcare setting
Position Information & Hours of Work
2026 Orientation Dates:
February 13–19, April 13–17, June 1–5, August 17–21, October 5–9, December 7–11
Recognition of previous EMS–EMR experience accepted
Shift patterns may include IFT-focused 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts, with additional 12-hour assembled
Position Description
EMRs assigned to IFT operations are responsible for:
Providing patient care and monitoring during interfacility transfers
Safely operating EMS vehicles in accordance with company policy and road safety regulations
Transporting patients between hospitals, care facilities, and specialty treatment centers
Working collaboratively with sending and receiving healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care
Performing patient assessments and delivering care within the EMR scope of practice
Adhering to all Medical Control Protocols (MCPs), standard operating procedures, and company policies
Completing accurate and thorough patient care documentation
Maintaining professionalism and prioritizing patient dignity, privacy, and comfort
Communicating effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and colleagues
Consulting with other healthcare providers when required
Ensuring ambulances, equipment, and stations are clean, stocked, and operationally ready
Physical Demands & Work Environment
EMRs spend extended periods standing, walking, reaching, crouching, and bending throughout their shifts. The role requires lifting and transferring patients and equipment, sometimes in confined or awkward positions. EMRs may be exposed to bodily fluids, chemicals, needle-stick risks, weather conditions, and other occupational hazards common in patient transport and healthcare environments.
