Job Description
By starting your career at Deloitte, you are joining a community of extraordinary professionals who put ‘making an impact’ at the heart of what they do. With our global reach, unwavering support, inclusive atmosphere, and cutting-edge technology, you'll have the opportunity to evolve into your fullest potential.

A graduate role at Deloitte is the perfect introduction to your first full-time permanent role in a business. You start with a cohort of people just like you, who have recently completed their studies, and get hands-on experience and support to apply your tertiary learnings in a real-world context. People at Deloitte are the best at what they do and learning from high-performers is a fantastic way to kickstart your growth and career.
Deloitte is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, including the integration and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our solutions. We value adaptability and a growth mindset, recognising that AI is transforming the way organisations operate. By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to develop skills that prepare you for the future of work and contribute to shaping how technology drives meaningful impact.
Graduates at Deloitte have a week-long induction to learn about the business, get paired with a buddy and coach to help them find their place in the team, and build connections with almost 200 other graduates doing the exact same thing! You are not on a ‘programme’ and instead inducted into the business as a key member of the team from day one. Once you sign your contract with Deloitte, you will start in February the year following. Between the application process and your start-date, we have many events and touchpoints, so you feel part of the Deloitte whānau before your first day and are greeted with friendly faces.

If you are interested in pursuing a professional qualification, Deloitte support this through paid study leave, subsidised courses, and training from senior members of the team. There are also many learning and development opportunities offered to our graduates outside of the professional qualification realm.
About this role:
Work with a talented and trusted team of experienced Tax and Business advisory professionals to offer services to a wide range of clients, from small to medium enterprises and privately owned businesses through to high‑net‑worth individuals and multinational organisations. Working in our Tax and Business Advisory practise you will support clients to solve their challenges through technical accounting advice, virtual CFO support, financial reporting, the preparation of financial statements and tax returns, tax consulting, management accounting, and helping them navigate complex tax legislation.
The team is one of the largest across New Zealand, comprising over 500 finance and tax professionals. Led by expert Partners, you will work with a diverse portfolio of clients to solve financial and tax issues, implement processes, interpret financial and commercial information, and support businesses and families to achieve their financial objectives.
Our people are located in every Deloitte office across New Zealand and work closely with other Deloitte business units to deliver exceptional client service.
Your typical day will include:
• Working directly with clients to solve complex financial and tax issues and presenting practical solutions and insights.
• Preparing management reports, financial statements, and tax returns, while giving technical advice regarding financial reporting, tax, and systems and processes.
• Interpreting, analysing, and researching technical tax topics and applying this knowledge to real client scenarios.
• Assisting clients with meeting their tax compliance obligations and deadlines.
• Developing skills in the use and application of cloud‑based systems such as Xero, Taxlab, and other financial technologies to support clients’ finance functions.
• Gaining broad experience across areas such as Corporate Tax, Private Tax Advisory, International Tax, Indirect Tax, M&A Tax, Transfer Pricing, Research & Development, and management accounting.
• Collaborating closely with internal Deloitte teams such as Strategy, Risk & Transactions and Accounting & Reporting Advisory to deliver cohesive and high‑quality outcomes for clients.
Enough about us, let's talk about you. You are someone with:
• Currently completing any degree and have a passion for business, problem‑solving, and working with numbers. A Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Law, or related degree can be advantageous, but is not essential.
• Potential eligibility to work towards Chartered Accountancy or CPA, though this is not a requirement, what matters is your eagerness to learn and develop both business advisory and tax capabilities.
• An analytical, detail‑oriented mindset, with curiosity for how businesses operate, how financial information is interpreted, and how tax rules apply in practice.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the emotional intelligence to work with clients, manage competing priorities, and collaborate in a team environment.
• A driven, hardworking, and intellectually curious approach, with the motivation to grow your technical and commercial skills.
• No previous experience is required. Part‑time roles or internships in accounting, finance, customer service, retail, or hospitality are beneficial but not essential.
