Program Details
Dates: June 1, 2026 - August 14, 2026
Schedule: 20–29 hours per week
Work Type: In-person (Pittsburgh-based roles)
Eligibility
Enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university (undergraduate or graduate)
Available to work at least 20 hours per week
Able to work in person at an assigned DHS office
Must have an Allegheny County address during the internship
International candidates must meet federal I-9 employment eligibility requirements.
Internship Overview
The Data Analytics Internship at DHS offers students the opportunity to apply their technical skills to real-world challenges that impact individuals, families, and communities across Allegheny County.
As a Data Analytics Intern, you will work on projects that help DHS improve services, make informed decisions, and better understand community needs. You will gain hands-on experience using data to support programs in areas such as child welfare, behavioral health, aging services, and community supports.

What You’ll Do
During your internship, you may:
Analyze real DHS datasets to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities
Support dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for leadership
Clean, organize, and validate data from multiple sources
Translate data findings into clear, actionable insights
Collaborate with program, technology, and analytics teams
Contribute to projects that improve service delivery and outcomes
Preferred Skills
Proficiency in SQL and at least one analytical tool (Python, R, or advanced Excel) for data analysis and transformation
Experience cleaning, validating, and working with large, complex datasets
Ability to design dashboards or data visualizations (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) that support decision-making
Experience working with APIs to extract and integrate data (e.g., REST APIs, JSON)
Strong analytical and statistical reasoning skills, with the ability to interpret results accurately
Ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences
Strong communication and organization skills, with the ability to manage work independently
