The Special Education Teacher is responsible for delivering the instructional program as outlined in a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and for carrying out all planning, supervision, and assessment of students in accord with the states' regulations and the school's mission, policies and practices.
Responsibilities:
Provide the instructional program for students to reflect the goals of students' IEPs.
Ensure sufficient instructional time, consistent discipline practices, and integration with the support and enrichment curriculum instruction.
Participate in the monthly RTI (Response to Intervention) meetings for assigned grade levels.
Meet weekly with grade-level classroom teachers to plan modifications of curriculum.
Complete all required documentation as required by law or by school administration.
Supervise a paraprofessional, if assigned, by assigning relevant tasks and instructional responsibilities commensurate with experience and ability.
Assist with standardized test administration or accommodations as requested by Head of School.
Communicate with parents to ensure a cooperative family partnership in accord with the school's mission and to increase student achievement.
Support the two-way language goals of the school.
Participate in and adopt school-based professional learning, innovations, and technology advances.
Participate in Special Education trainings as requested by the Director of Special Education.
Invest in personal and professional development through on-going training in accord with an approved professional development plan.
Experience/Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education or appropriate content subject area
3 years' experience preferred
Massachusetts Special Education License
SEI endorsed or become SEI endorsed by the end of the first year
Strong commitment to education reform initiatives, particularly raising educational equity for low-income and linguistic minority students
Experience teaching urban students of Hispanic backgrounds preferred
Ability to work independently and as a team member of the grade-level staff and school community
Commitment to the specific mission and goals of LFDCS
Demonstrated excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Demonstrated interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills
Schedule: Full-Time, School-Year Position
Reports to: Director of Special Education, Heads of School
