LFDCS is searching for a Social Studies Curriculum Specialist to join our team. The Social Studies Curriculum Specialist works under the direction of the Principal for the coordination of curriculum and instruction within the academic discipline of Social Studies to (1) implement curriculum planning and revision, and (2) collaborate, consult, and advise building leaders in order to support teachers in the effective implementation of high-quality, evidence-based instructional practices and curricular materials.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Social Studies curriculum review cycles, curriculum exploration, and curriculum revisions to establish alignment with Massachusetts History and Social Science curriculum frameworks and culturally responsive teaching practices
Lead curriculum work to establish the horizontal and vertical alignment of curriculum and instructional strategies among and between grade levels
Collaborate with instructional leaders and teachers on standards-based grading and rubric creation
Oversee common assessment routines and support analysis of assessment data to improve instruction and ensure all students are learning
Plan professional development for staff that supports the implementation of high-quality curriculum, research-based instructional practices, and centering equity to ensure all students have consistent access to grade-level, high-quality learning experiences.
Facilitate district professional development on leveraging technology to more effectively differentiate student learning, with a goal towards personalization
Communicate and collaborates among vertical and horizontal teacher teams, to identify digital instructional needs (logistical and curricular), and follow up with research and recommendations
Lead curriculum committees and professional learning communities
Identify students of concern and collaborates with instructional leaders and teachers to make intervention plans

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree in Education (preferred)
Five years of classroom teaching experience, or in the role of Social Studies specialist or coach
Knowledge of Investigating History curriculum (preferred)
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
Understanding of own attitudes, beliefs, and biases
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators
Knowledge of standards-based education, differentiated instructional strategies, and assessments
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and in a culturally responsive manner, in oral and written form
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the educational field
Ability to use professional literature, evidence-based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions
Schedule: Full-Time, School-Year Position
