Lawrence Family Development Charter School is in need of a highly skilled and motivated music teacher who is passionate about making a difference in students' lives. The Music Teacher for K-1 to Grade 8 will be responsible for teaching the fundamental principles of music, based on the state standards and demonstrate a love of music and the value of music to students' lives.
Responsibilities:
Teach Music as a special subject to students in Grade K1 (4 year olds) through Grade 8.
Create and plan engaging, grade-appropriate music lessons.
Familiarity with national and state Music/ Arts standards.
Illustrate basic Music concepts for students through modeling.
Provide opportunities to demonstrate skills necessary for musical performance and audience.
Design creative activities to allow students to experience and perform different music skills and activities.
Design creative activities to allow students the opportunities to hear and use different instruments.
Design creative activities to allow students the opportunities to hear various musical genres.
Plan and facilitate developmentally-appropriate musical activities.
Maintain strong classroom management through engagement.
Communicate with classroom teachers, parents, and administrators as needed.
Work with other specialists (Art and PE) to develop rich standards-based experiences.
Experience/Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
Certified in Music by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
SEI endorsed or become SEI endorsed by the end of the first year
3 years' experience preferred
Strong commitment to education reform initiatives, particularly raising educational equity for low-income and linguistic minority students
Proven ability to communicate well with adults and children
Demonstrated ability to work as a positive team member
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
Commitment to the specific mission and goals of LFDCS
Experience developing programs for urban students of Hispanic backgrounds preferred
Schedule: Full-Time, School-Year Position
Reports to: Head of School
