Job Description
The Reading Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in the area of English Language Arts, with special emphasis on reading. The Interventionist provides individual or small group instruction to students who are one or more grade level behind in reading or writing. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.
Job Responsibilities
Intervention Instruction
Provides high quality phonics, reading, and writing instruction to individual students and small groups of students who are one or more grades below grade level in reading
Sets a positive, trauma-informed, and mastery-driven culture for small group instruction
Uses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs
Works in conjunction with teachers, leaders, and school structures to create a comprehensive schedule with students on caseload that complements classroom instruction
Plans and implements research-driven intervention instruction to students that is responsive to students’ language, social-emotional, and instructional needs.
Data Driven Intervention
Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups
Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their phonics and reading skills to grade-level
Provides data to school teams and participates in decision about student progress
Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress
Participates in meeting with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress
Supports implementation of assessment tools and data management systems
Progress monitors students throughout each instructional window
Collaboration
Provides input for school-wide intervention program development
Collaborates with teachers, leaders, and families to help identify strategies and best practices for individual and small groups of students
Supports MTSS team and MTSS plans for individual students through sharing best practices and helping measure impact of different interventions
Job Qualifications

Ability to use technology seamlessly
Ability to work effectively under stressful working conditions
Initiative and strong work ethic
Demonstrated understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices
Bachelor’s degree and Teaching License, or desire/ability to gain teaching credential
5+ years of successful classroom teaching experience required
Must have and demonstrated foundational knowledge of the science of reading
Willingness and/or demonstrated ability to work with students across grade levels K-8
Spanish or Burmese language proficiency preferred
Familiarity with iReady, ANet, Dibels, and data driven instructional practices.
Proficiency in and experience with research-based intervention programs (e.g. Wilson Reading System, Orton-Gillingham, 95 Literacy Intervention System, or similar) highly preferred.
Minimum Physical Requirements:
Be able to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, grab or hold with one or both hands.
Be able to lift up to 40lbs without difficulty
The ability to sit for extended periods during group training
Strong classroom management in elementary and/or middle school
Salary and Benefits
Vega Collegiate Academy offers a competitive salary and comprehensive health benefits package. Salary begins at approximately $70,000 but will follow the Vega Collegiate Academy Salary Schedule
Start Date
Vega Collegiate Academy staff will begin training and orientation on 7/20/2026.
